Fiestas Patrias

This year, I had an unforgettable Fiestas Patrias celebration in Algarrobo with my parents, my in-laws, my boyfriend, and his brother. We stayed at my grandparents' house, a cozy wooden home that holds so much charm and history. Even though my grandparents didn’t build it themselves, the house has been part of my family for years, and its warm, rustic vibe made it the perfect setting for this special holiday.
The celebration started with a classic asado. We all gathered in the backyard, grilling delicious empanadas, anticuchos, and choripanes. The aroma of the barbecue mixed with the cool coastal breeze was unforgettable. During the day, we walked along the beach, skipping stones and taking photos of the beautiful ocean views. Back at the house, we played board games as a family, which turned into lively competitions filled with laughter and jokes.
At night, the real excitement began as we headed to the fondas. The festive atmosphere was electric, with colorful lights, live music, and the mouthwatering smells of traditional Chilean food filling the air. We couldn’t resist trying everything sopaipillas, churros, anticuchos you name it. By the end of the night, we were so full we could barely move!
But the fun didn’t stop there. We ventured into the electronic game booths to test our skills, and let’s just say luck wasn’t on our side. We lost around $10,000 trying to beat the games, but it became part of the adventure. We laughed about our failed attempts and joked about how we could’ve spent that money on more food!
One of the most memorable moments of the trip was attempting to dance cueca with my boyfriend. I danced terribly, tripping over my own feet, but it brought so much joy and laughter to everyone watching. It quickly became the highlight of the weekend and a story everyone will remember for future gatherings.
As we walked back home under the stars, the sound of music and laughter from the fondas faded into the background.
